Key Information
Day 1
Meet your crew
Wave goodbye to the office and head to Bergen where you'll be met at the airport and transferred to your accommodation in Voss. After settling into your hostel, head out to grab dinner locally. If you're feeling brave, you could try a quick dip in the Vangsvatnet lake before settling in for good night’s sleep before hitting the road, and hitting the water tomorrow.
Day 2
Kayaking the Nærøyfjord
Kayaking
Grab breakfast at your hostel and then head to the put-in point at Gudvangen. When you arrive, your guide will get you set up with your wetsuit, kayaking boots, dry bag and waterproof camera/phone box and all of your paddle gear. You'll have a safety briefing and an introduction to sea kayaking before heading out for your first days unforgettable kayaking down the beautiful Nærøyfjord. You'll stop off along the way for breaks and to admire the scenery before arriving at the campsite in late afternoon. Enjoy a well-deserved break and the stunning scenery before tucking into a hot dinner and make merry around the campfire. If you're feeling up to it, there is the option of going for a short walk to get a better view of the fjord from above.
Day 3
Hike to the highlands 1000m above the fjord
Hiking
Wake up in a Norwegian paradise and enjoy a leisurely breakfast before packing your bag, ready for the day's hike. Your aim is to reach the Breiskrednosi summit 1189m above the Nærøyfjord and get a spectacular view of the fjord from above. Drink in the views over the fjord from the top with your group. Head back down to your campsite and enjoy dinner round the campfire before another night under the stars.
Day 4
Kayak past cliff faces and waterfalls before heading home
Kayaking
Continue kayaking north along the Nærøyfjord, exploring magnificent cliffs and remote waterfalls, keeping your eye out for seals along the way. Arrive mid-afternoon at the remote village of Undredal, before heading to the airport in time for your flight home.

What is the food like?
The portions are more than generous, all the food is fresh and any dietary requirements can be met - just tell us your preferences when you book. Dinner and breakfast is prepared by your guide over a campfire, the menu will vary but you can expect things like rice and pasta with fresh vegetables, egg, bacon and sausages. There is also bread and sandwich filler for lunch breaks. Water, tea and coffee are also readily available as well as wine for the evenings.
What is the accommodation like?
Voss
On your first night, you'll be staying in same-sex dorms in a simple, clean hostel in Voss. Occasionally alternative accommodation is provided in cabins at Gudvangen Camping (close to the kayaking base) or in a simple hotel in Brandseth.
Fjord Edge
On the second and third night, you'll paddle to a beach and sleep in a tent under the stars. Sleeping mats and sleeping bags are provided, but you can bring your own if you prefer. There is no shower, and toilets are basic to say the least - it is wild camping after all.
Upgrades
If you'd prefer your own room in Voss, your host offers an optional upgrade to a private room at Voss Hostel or alternatively at the 4-star Park Hotel Voss (subject to availability). Park Hotel is conveniently located about 150m from the train station and right on the lakefront. Please see Optional Extras for prices - we recommend that you request this at the time of booking to avoid disappointment.
This trip has been rated as Moderate
You really do not need any kayaking experience. Your guide will give you full instructions and a safety briefing at the start. You’ll just need reasonable levels of fitness to handle approx 25km of relaxed paddling over two days, a day of hiking and be up for camping out overnight.
The hike is not for beginners and is very challenging, particularly if it is or has been wet. You'll gain over a thousand meters in elevation during the hike and early in the season (April, May and occasionally early June) there can be snow on the ground (sometimes quite deep) which adds to the challenge. The same can apply late in the season too. We would only recommend this hike if you are an active person with hiking experience. It just takes a bit of time getting up the steep section but don’t worry, it’s no race to the top.
The route is about 10km each way, making a total hike of 20.7km. The elevation is sea level to 1,189m and quite steep in places. The hike is about 8 to 11 hours return, with an awesome view from the ridge at the top to the fjord below.
What if i need to skip an activity?
There should be no problem with staying back at camp during the hiking day for someone not wanting to hike. It may also be possible to just come along for the first part of the hike and then return to the camp, this does depend on where the group is actually camped as this may affect options. Alternatively, you could consider booking the Kayak and Wild Camp Norwegian Fjords trip instead.
What will I need to carry?
For the hike, you'll only need to carry a small daypack with personal items, spare clothing layers, snacks, a packed lunch, and a water bottle. See the Kit List and FAQs for further details about packing and luggage.
The weather in summer is generally very comfortable for kayaking and camping, with temperatures of 15-20 degrees Celsius, sometimes more. April and May typically see the lowest rainfall but days are cooler (typically 10-15 degrees Celsius) and nights usually hover a few degrees above freezing. Snow cover often persists on higher ground into April and May (and occasionally early June) and is likely to be encountered along a significant portion of the hike (your host has a stock of snowshoes if needed). We recommend joining this trip in July and August for the warmest temperatures, but it’s great all summer.
In any month it can rain and get chilly at night so waterproofs, good hiking boots, a warm jumper and some thermals are vital. This time of year daylight in Norway is constant with only 2–3 hours of darkness in the evenings.

Best camping trip I have been on
5 star experience for the actual kayaking/camping/hiking part. Emma was an incredible guide and did an amazing job feeding me with my complicated dietary issues (no gluten and no dairy). I've never eaten so well on a camping trip! The kayaking was not difficult and very enjoyable. I loved the hike but it was definitely hard (long and a lot of elevation gain). I found trekking poles helpful. Also, they feed you so well you don't need to bring food -- use your dry bag space to bring spare clothes since if anything gets wet it won't dry (ESPECIALLY SOCKS). I'm taking off one star for the logistics before getting to the kayaking center - if you will already be in Norway (ie not taking the flight from the UK and/or making your way to Voss), then triple check all of the logistics of when you need to be where for pickup -- I had some issues with that part.
Amazing scenery coupled with severe and avoidable discomfort
If you want to experience the Norwegian Fjords and be astounded by the views then this trip is definitely worth considering. The Fjords are beautiful. The hike is lovely. Really, wow!
Our guide was also so hardworking. She was always making sure we were enjoying ourselves and always smiling.
Also our group was great. Everyone was really friendly. Although I guess this is up to chance.
On the negative side of things, the equipment was worn and old. The tents were ancient and basic, and pray it doesn’t rain or the insides will be at best wet, and at worst entirely flooded (see video). Both mine and my partner’s sleeping bags had missing zips. The kayaks, paddles and lifejackets work but have clearly had a lot of use.
The campsite could also use a proper picnic area and better fireside seating. There were some 2x4 planks over a tiny area big enough to only seat half the group.
There were also ticks and mosquitoes everywhere so if you are worried about that sort of thing then don’t go.
The toilets were the most disgusting thing I’ve ever seen. I’ve backpacked around South America and Asia and never seen anything as foul as the camp toilets. Someone needs to clean them out. Definitely not “long drop” as claimed.
This was wild camping to the extreme. If you like hot showers, dry sleeping, and hearty food to recover after long days of exercise then this trip is not for you.
More on the informational side:
The kayaking was a nice comfortable pace. There were several stops along the way to give you a chance to stretch your legs, warm up with a hot drink, and eat some food.
The hike is roughly 25km long. Most of it is pretty easy if you have basic fitness (e.g. go running three times a week for 30 minutes). There is a 1km section just before you reach the top affectionately known as “the slog” that takes about an hour. The incline on this section is about 20 to 25 degrees so pretty steep. If it is raining then the walk down this section is treacherous. I saw at least 5 people take hard falls whilst making their way down.
Leave dry clothes, a towel and a spare pair of shoes at the kayak center. When you get back you will have the opportunity to have a cold shower and freshen up before heading off to the airport.
Overall, the views and the guide were amazing. The food was ok. The equipment was terrible.
Great views and guide; equipment and amenities need a refresh
5* for the views, scenery and our guide Amy; the equipment (particularly tents, mats) look quite dated and tired, the camp site could do with some more amenities, like a covered picnic table or similar, outhouses as toilets were disgusting; rains a lot and everything got wet. Food was good but would have liked to try some more local
Amazing trip away to a fabulous place
We had an amazing time with our guide Kieran on the three day tour. Kayaking was spectacular and fun. The hike was challenging and we would recommend doing some UK peaks to get your kit right and make sure you’re fit as you’ll enjoy it more. Camp life included long drops of course but was comfortable enough with plenty of food and snacks. I was glad of my sleeping bag liner. We didn’t use our hiking snacks and emergency food at all. An eye mask for night time is a game changer- strong recommend. Do get in the lake- refreshing and lovely. A hiking/travel towel is a worthwhile investment. Overall an excellent well run and fun trip. Some fitness preparation and thoughtful kit choices (don’t bring loads) will make your time more focussed on adventures and fun!
Review
Had such a brilliant experience, everything in the trip was well managed and got to see some amazing views.
5 day trip to Norway
Great organization, cheerfull guides, clear briefing, the tents were not optimal, very thin sleeping mat, the hiking was fantastic, gigantic views, lucky with the weather. The kayaking was fantastic, too bad we didn’t have a kayak per person, but the views were beautiful, enormous waterfalls. There was plenty of food and snacks, sometimes with some sand between the plates ;-). We had a fantastic time ! Highly recommanded.
Great trip, fantastic group, amazing
Great trip, fantastic group, amazing scenery & the best guide (Evan from Nordic Ventures). However, the walk is very long, & some of the kit is very old & falling apart! Roll mats were also very thin & uncomfortable
Amazing Trip - do it!
Hugely exceeded my expectations, mainly thanks to our amazing guide, Jess - heart of gold, made sure we were all safe, involved and well-fed. Utterly breathtaking scenery and a perfect mix of activity and down-time. Absolutely loved it and already looking at options for our next adventure! If you're hovering over the 'book' icon, just do it.....you won't regret it.
Perfect.
What an amazing adventure
The trip was incredibly well organised, and Jan and his team were so friendly and helpful. There was plenty of food and snacks available and the kit was all in really good condition. If you're thinking of visiting Norway, this is the only way to do it!!!!!
An amazing adventure.
Wow a truly amazing experience, I would highly recommend. The trip was very well organised from the point of pick up to drop of at the airport.
Amy our guild was amazing, such a lovely hardworking lady with the biggest smile and heart. Nothing was to much trouble for her, she always when that extra mile to make the trip a fabulous experience.
The food was deliciously prepared and cooked by Amy. The portions were very generous. The snacks and wine was an extra welcomed bonus after a long hard day hiking 🥾 🍫 🍷 . I was blown away with all the supplies carefully packed away in the kayaks.
The views and scenery were spectacular during both the kayaking and hike, we were lucky enough to see a seal, sheep and goats … and the fattest slug ever 🤣
The hike was a long challenging day, Amy was positive and encouraging, allowed people to find their own pace.
This was a truly magic experience, thank you 🥾❤️
Great experience
Had an amazing experience. Got no complaints. Food exceeded expectations by a long shot. All the equipment supplied was in good condition (maybe recommend a sleeping pad if you're a tad precious). And David our guide was great, was very informative on the local area and the history and never had the group waiting on him. A very well lead trip.
One of the best trips ever !!
Absolutely brilliant. Our guide Katie was amazing. So friendly and knowledgeable. Everything was really organised. We all had such a laugh.. would definitely recommend this adventure... definitely one for your bucket list ..
An awesome experience which was
An awesome experience which was made even more interesting by having a very knowledgeable guide in Katie, who was always keen for us to see and do as much as possible in a beautiful country.
Outstanding trip
If I could add more than 5 stars, I would! Spotless organisation and lead by a great team. Everything was perfect, down to the little detail. Our guide Scarlett was the best guide we could have hoped to have and made the experience unforgettable. Would 100% recommend if you want to get in touch with nature and meet some amazing people
Awesome trip
I can’t recommend this trip enough. It was well organised from start to finish, the locations were stunning and the crew were brilliant. Our guide, Scarlett worked hard to insure everything ran smoothly and she did a great job of turning eight strangers into friends within twenty-four hours. Plus her campfire cooking was exceptional. If kayaking and swimming through fjords, camping out and hiking through stunning mountain scenery is what you’re looking for then this is the trip for you.
An amazing trip!!
Unbeatable views, amazing service, and a great group of people!
Awesome Trip
Me and my friend done the tour with David and an awesome group of others, the whole experience was like a well oiled machine, credit to David, who you could tell truly loves the environment he guides you around.
Look forward to doing another with the hopes of a similar trip.
The hike was harder than the easy route up Ben Nevis (from my experience) but is very much achievable.
Hike,kayak& camp the Norwegian Fjords
Brilliant trip, fantastic scenery, lovely guide. Activities were sufficiently challenging and took us to places it would have been difficult to organise for ourselves. Felt much longer than 4 days. Thank you Evan.
Perfect
Beautiful landscape, amazing hike and
Beautiful landscape, amazing hike and lovely camping site directly at a fjord
The most incredible weekend!
I had the best 3 days of adventuring in the fjords of Norway with Much Better Adventures + Nordic Ventures! Everything was organised and communicated very well, and our guide Jess was incredible as making sure our group gelled together and enjoyed our time. The food was amazing, the kayaking views incredible, and the hike challenging but so rewarding! An absolute bucket list item ticked off - and even rewarded with some seals playing in the fjord at our campsite!
Epic adventure
Really amazing trip. Loved the guide Emma, trip had so.much included and planned and got taken to some amazing parts of Norway that didn't have 1000s of others.
5 * for our guide
5 * for our guide Corey. Great energy & made sure the whole group achieved their goals. Also top marks for epic scenery! 3 * overall due to rubbish equipment which was damaged or missing parts and long drop toilets which were no drop to the point of overflowing!!
Magical 3 Days in the Fjords
Truly an unreal trip led by a smooth operation. The gear & guide were awesome. It felt really nice to know that it's all handled and we didn't need to travel with any gear.
The trip itself is definitely not for the faint of heart - the hike is no joke! But the views & sense of accomplishment are totally worth it.
Highly Recommended!
The trip was incredible! The views are breathtaking (literally, you hike a lot).
Our guide (Kieran) was amazing! He made sure that everyone was safe, comfortable, and having a good time during the trip. He also kept us well-fed during the trip and the hike! He's great!
As for the trip itself, the first day was slightly confusing since we had not met the guides and we were free-roaming around the hostel. But from the second day (when we met the guides), everything went smoothly.
Kayaking in the fjords was really nice and enjoyable, we took our time to kayak, made stops for food/hydration and also made stops in the middle to take pictures.
All the items are provided as listed in the itenriary. We made camp and food was prepared for us daily.
On the hike, Kieran made sure everyone is safe and can keep up, also gave some historical context on the area as we went. The hike was challenging but the views are simply incredible, would 10000% do it again!
Superb
Had an unbelievable tour with a group of friends. Massive thanks to our guide Corey who was awesome, very well informed and great company around the fire. Would highly recommend.
Worth the hype!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This trip was incredible. I'd
This trip was incredible. I'd recommend to anyone! The hike was tough - definitely worth doing a couple of practice hikes - but the views from the top were so worth the effort. The guides were really good, ours (Keiran) really knew his stuff and was a major part of why the trip was so good. If you're on the fence about it, take the leap. You won't regret it!
My First Solo Adventure
This was simply an incredible trip. I had never travelled solo before and it couldn't have been better. The group I was in was so welcoming and we had a great laugh. The Kayaking, and Hiking was amazing with breathtaking views. I didn't expect too much with the food but was pleasantly surprised, definitely didn't expect a Thai curry made up one of the nights in the campsite! Highly recommended.
We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.
What's the number?
It works out on average at 47kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.
The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.
But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:
- Driving 1000miles/1609km would be approx. 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person if there was 2 of you in it).
- A return economy class flight London - New York would be approx. 1,619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
- 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approx. 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.
What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.
Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.

Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.
The trip will be split into groups of up to 10 people. Let us know if you are travelling with friends, and we will make sure you are in the same group as friends who have booked.

One of the most beautiful places in the world. A fjord is a deep, narrow and elongated part of the sea, that stretches inland for miles, winding around mountains, valleys, and steep cliffs. The fjords were formed by the giant glacier tongues and shaped over several ice ages.
There are a plenty of kayaks available for you to use with a mix of single and doubles available depending on your preference.
You're free to bring any luggage or suitcase you wish with you to Voss. On day 2, you'll check out of your accommodation with all of your luggage and transfer by bus to the host's kayaking base in Gudvangen. Here, you'll be given a 22-litre dry bag to pack everything into for your kayaking, camping and hiking adventure (excluding your sleeping bag and sleeping mat, unless you bring your own). You will be given a hard waterproof case for your camera/phone too, and you'll want to keep certain things handy such as your water bottle, cap, sunscreen and snacks. You'll need to pack light as your dry bag has to fit into the hatched compartments (bulkheads) of the kayak, along with the group's food and equipment which will be shared among the kayaks. The remainder of your luggage that you don't need on the adventure can be left behind at the kayaking base in Gudvangen, where it will be safely stored until your return.
Don't stress, your host will explain all during the briefing.
Absolutely. The train is 45 minutes faster than the included transfer and is one of the most spectacular journeys you can take by rail. Here’s how:
From the airport, get the Flybussen airport shuttle to Bergen bus station, or the Bybanen (city light rail - cheaper but slower). Buses to/from the airport run every 10-15 minutes, and cost roughly 90NOK (£9) each way. The Bybanen is approx 40NOK (£4).
From the bus station it’s a few minutes walk to the train station. A taxi from the airport to train station can be booked for between 350-550NOK (£35-£55), depending on traffic.
Trains run regularly throughout the day and don’t need to be booked in advance, with a single ticket to Voss costing roughly 200NOK (£20). Trains to Oslo stop at Voss.
You can buy tickets at the ticket office up until 5.30 pm, or from ticket machines. If you want to check the timetable or book online head here.
Voss Hostel is a 12 minute walk from the station. Head out of the main station and turn right on the road. Follow the road until just before the roundabout (about 750m) then take the left turning, following the road for 200m more - straight to the hostel.
For the return, make your life easy by jumping on the already included transfers to Bergen Airport.
We can recommend the following from budget to high price. There are many other hotels, however these are selected for their convenience and/or from experience:
Accommodation in Voss
- Voss Hostel - great prices for individuals, couples or large groups.
- Voss Camping Cabins - ideal for small groups of 3 to 4.
- Store Ringheim Hotel - perfect for cosy traditional rooms and great food.
Accommodation in Bergen
- Montana Hostel - great prices for individuals, couples or large groups.
- Grand Terminus Hotel - Older style but right next to the train station.
- Thon Bristol Hotel - great central city location for sightseeing and nightlife.
- First Marin Hotel - great central city location for sightseeing and nightlife.
Here’s what your local guide has to say on drones:
We do not really encourage bringing drones on this trip for several reasons:
- There are limited times where there would be possibilities for flying the drone.
- We need to keep the campsites free of drone traffic in agreement with the landowners.
- There is often livestock animals in some areas that may get affected and we need to keep a good relationship with the farmers.
- We have seen some people being frustrated by drone traffic and can understand this.
Having said this, we do not prohibit drone use as it is out of our legislation. As long as it does not interfere with the issues mentioned above and you can fit the drone in the kayak, it will be OK to bring it along. Just please do discuss the use with other group members sometime after meeting up with them on the first morning to settle this.
The best way to meet your host is to take the train from Oslo centre to Voss (not Bergen), and then head to Voss Hostel. See the FAQ how to get to Voss hostel from the airport and just follow the directions from Voss station to the hostel. The train journey takes about 6.5 hours and goes through some amazing scenery.

All of our group adventures are specially designed for adults to enjoy (18+) as we want these adventures to bring together outdoorsy people who are truly like-minded. Children can be accommodated on some private departures.
You're always in good company on one of our adventures.
Our trips are typically made up of a mixture of solo travellers and small groups of 2 or 3 friends, with most in their 30s-50s.
Our sociable adventures are solo-friendly by design and naturally attract outdoorsy people with a shared mindset; a love for adventure, a desire to push themselves and meet awesome, like-minded people along the way.
It’s this camaraderie that has so often turned a great adventure into a life-changing one.
Don't just take our word for it:
- 95% of people rate the group dynamics on our trips 5/5
- 90% of people recommend joining a trip to make new friends
- 75% of people have met people on our trips that they would now consider friends
